African Dance camp in Senegal
Dance and Drum Retreat in Senegal 🇸🇳 11 to 25 February 2025
Spend almost two weeks immersed African Dance Camp in the rhythm of ocean waves and Djembe drums with Karine Label and Djoutala Seydi. Enjoy a sunny and well-deserved winter getaway. We offer two weeks of drum and dance lessons on the beach, along with various excursions into the Senegalese Casamance region.
Dance with Live Djembe and Drums
Workshops in African and Haitian dance for beginners and advanced participants, led by local artists from Casamance, Senegal. Professional artists from the region will provide an authentic and accessible introduction to African dance and the diverse, captivating rhythms of African music. The core of African dance is its rich symbolic gestures, which have been integral to celebrations and rituals for centuries.
Location and Accommodation
The Afro Dance Workshop takes place at the cultural training center “Tily-Boo” in Kafountine, Senegal. The center is situated on the beach amidst tropical vegetation, surrounded by giant kapok and baobab trees, palm forests, and mangrove swamps. Participants will stay at the Tily-Boo Center in traditional bungalows (double rooms with shower, WC, and 220V electricity) with full board (three meals daily).

Maximum 15 persons.
Karine Label and Djoutala Seydi, along with local artists, will guide you through the program.
African Dance Workshops (approx. 3 hours daily):
African and Haitian dance (for all levels), Traditional Sabar dance, Traditional Saourouba dances.
Drum Workshops (approx. 2 hours daily):
Djembe, Doun Doun, Saourouba, Sabar, Tamah, Bougarabou, and Kora.

About the Instructors
Karine Label
LaBel is a recognized freelance artist, dance choreographer, and teacher from Vienna. Since 2000, she has taught traditional Haitian dance at the University Sports Institute in Vienna and since 2004 at the ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival.
Born in Les Cayes, Haiti, she trained with the renowned Viviane Gauthier and deepened her knowledge of Haitian rituals with Matissou Legba. She studied African dance in Paris with Georges Momboye and contemporary dance in Vienna with renowned instructors.
Djoutala Seydi
Djoutala is Born in Casamance, Senegal, he started dancing at an early age. A former member of the “Woulaba” Ballet in Ziguinchor and “Melody” in Dakar, he now leads the 18-member dance and drum ensemble “Doman Doman.”
He co-founded the Tily-Boo training center in Kafountine, creating a space for people worldwide to experience West African culture firsthand and foster cultural exchange.
Travel Information
Travel is self-organized and not included in the workshop price. The instructors usually travel with participants from Vienna, Austria, but this is not mandatory.
From Europe (especially Austria)
Fly to Dakar or Banjul. From Dakar, take a domestic flight (approx. 50 minutes), taxi, or ferry to Ziguinchor, the capital of Casamance. Depending on connections, an overnight stay may be necessary.
From Senegal or another African country
If you already live in Senegal or another African country, you’re welcome to join. Please organize your travel independently.
- Vaccinations: Follow the health department’s recommendations for Senegal.
- Travel insurance is recommended.
